JAMES B. FARNSWORTH LOCAL SCHOOL COUNCIL 

NOTICE WAS GIVEN that the Local School Council had scheduled a regular meeting on Wednesday December 16th, 2015 to begin at 10:00 AM at Farnsworth School, 5414 North Linder Avenue, in Chicago, Illinois.

V. Public Comment
Please note: Public Comment is limited to 2 minutes, and you must sign in prior to the start of the meeting.
-Sean Fletcher has agreed to chair the Safety and Security Advisory Committee
-A special notice will be sent home in January to invite
-Request for handouts to appear as PDF’s on the school website
-Have a great Holiday Break!



VI. Reports
A. Chairperson
-Module 5 is up, please complete at your availability.


B. Student Council Report
-New Council includes 11 members, all of whom were elected by their peers

-Council raised over $400 for cancer research at their annual Pink Day fundraiser

-The Council is currently raffling off a Samsung TV to benefit their School Improvement Fund.

-The Council is hosting an Ugly Sweater Party this Friday is celebration of Winter Break.

-They are also moving forward with their community project collaboration with a former Farnsworth Student Kyle Moorhouse where they will be collecting old backpacks to fill with supplies for the homeless.

-The Council will also be looking into purchasing “Farnsworth Swag” to promote our school and community.


C. Principal
-ELA and Math Network Leads have attended their quarterly meetings and will present in February

-ILT analyzed diverse learned MAP growth and looked for trends among the population to explain the drop in data,

-NWEA window has opened and students are currently testing and will continue to test through February 4th

-Individual student PARCC results have been distributed
-Many states are currently dropping the PARCC assessment

-Mr. Genge is currently still on leave.

-Ms. Tolczyk is on a leave and is anticipated to return after break.

-Boys and Girls Basketball is currently in season. The boys have both a 5/6th grade team as well as a 7th/8th. The girls have one combined team.

-After School EL tutoring program for grades 2-8th is currently in session on Tuesdays and Wednesdays for an hour after school. Money for the program was received through a grant.

-Safety and Security Updates: Mullion was added to assembly door, gym lights will be replaced and ballasts updated over break.

-Budget Update: Principals have been advised to have a contingency plan regarding upcoming February layoffs. CTU/CBE contract proposals will impact the budget crisis.

VII. New Business
A. Safety and Security Concerns
-Suggestion for a new scoreboard for the gym

-A feeling of disappointment over no Holiday Assembly was shared. There will be a Winter Assembly after we return from break in February.
