NOTICE WAS GIVEN that the Local School Council scheduled a regular meeting on Wednesday January 13th, 2016 to begin at 8:15 AM at Farnsworth School, 5414 North Linder Avenue, in Chicago, Illinois.

V. Public Comment
Please note: Public Comment is limited to 2 minutes, and you must sign in prior to the start of the meeting.

-Mr. Nelson is concerned about recess and winter weather. He would like to see students going out at every possible opportunity. The concerned was seconded by additional parents in attendance.

-Mr. Fletcher is also concerned about how recess time is being spent. He would like to see a “plan” implemented for cold weather days that promotes more physical activity.

VI. Reports
A. Chairperson

-A reminder that final training module is available on-line. Please complete in a timely manner.

-There will be an upcoming Annual Principal Review in April.

-LSC elections are April 13th at 3rd Quarter Report Card pick

B. Student Council Report
-The TV raffle was a success and the council made close to $1000. The TV was won by The Feley Family.

-Council is working on the homeless backpack project to support former Farnsworth student Kyle Moorehouse. A flyer will be distributed this Thursday.

-The council approved spending on a new wireless PA system for the Auditorium and well as contributing to a new scoreboard for the gym.

-The council has also stated to make plans for their annual Valentine’s Day carnation sale.

C. Principal
-Enrollment currently stands at 628 students

-CIWP network meeting was attended by ILT members as well as Mrs. OKen.

-DePaul math group will be hosting a meeting next week

-MAP/MPG testing continues.

-5 essentials survey window has opened for teachers and students. Parents will be notified when available-typically computers are set up at 3rd quarter Report Card pick-up.

-Still missing an afternoon security position, in the meantime Ms. Walsh and Mrs. OKen are monitoring and working the front desk.

-Family Game night is coming up on January 28th

-Basketball season continues, gym lights have been updated. The lighting situation has greatly improved.

-Mrs. OKen is working with a team of local principals as well as CPS Safety and Security to create a reference sheet for parents regarding emergency evacuation policies.

-Pick-up/Drop-off protocols are in need of review-Mrs. OKen is aware and has reached out to the 16th district and the Alderman’s office accordingly.

Budget/Spending Approval

-PTA met yesterday (1/12)
-Daddy-Daughter dance is coming up
-Creative Dramatics production of
“Alice in Wonderland” will be in the Spring

E. Friends of Farnsworth

PAC- Next meeting is January 27th

VII. New Business
A. Plowing/Outdoor Recess
-Temperatures below 15-20 degrees, will require an indoor recess. Icy playground conditions will be taken on a case by case basis. Mrs. OKen will also look into snow plow removal and will coordinate with Mr. Sanders to ensure better playground removal.

B. Scoreboard
-For next year there has been discussion around a Saturday league being held at the local high school-which may negate the need for a scoreboard
-Mr. Sanders is looking into the electrical logistics of the location of a score board.
-The Council will wait to hear more.
