JAMES B. FARNSWORTH LOCAL SCHOOL COUNCIL 


NOTICE WAS GIVEN that the Local School Council has scheduled a State of the School meeting on Wednesday October 12, 2016 at 6:15 pm at Farnsworth School, 5414 North Linder Avenue, in Chicago, Illinois.

V. Public Comment
Mr. Fletcher wanted to follow up on his discussion from last meeting regarding security for elections. Principal Oken reassured all that school security will be presented from 7:30am-3:30pm, and 3:30-midnight. Additionally, security will be requested regardless as proximity from gym to main entrance is cumbersome.

Mr. Fletcher also raised concerned about the rear driveway entrance. Mrs. Oken is considering looking into parent patrols as well as painting pathways to indicate suggested foot traffic routes.



VI. Reports
A. Chairperson
-Reminder that there are new training modules available and required for new council members.


B. Student Council Report
-None at this time


C. Principal
Current enrollment stands at 640 (an increase of 3.1%) with a low income population of 63.0%, EL population of 33.3%, and Special Education population of 27%.

SQRP rating dropped from Level 1+ to Level 1. Primary findings suggest that NWEA Math Growth is where points were lost, specifically among the Diverse Learner populations as well as English Learners. Highlights include three years of attendance growth rates, with last year coming in at 95.2%

MAP testing will still take place 3x per year. Literacy instruction K-3 implements of Daily 5, and 4-8 CCSS aligned teacher created units. Math Instruction K-6 implements the Envision 2.0 curriculum, and 7-8 Go Math

Social Emotional Curriculum begins to evolve with this year’s highlight including being nominated by the Network as a Restorative Practice Leadership School (1 of 3 schools chosen) and implementation of the Positive Behavior Intervention System (PBIS).

5Essentials Overview Data reveals a “Well-Organized” School Environment (the highest level)

School Life continues to flourish certifications in Creative School (Excelling), Healthy Schools (Bronze), Supportive Schools (Emerging), and Preschool Program Certification (Gold). The Champions program has expanded and Battle of the Books and After School Algebra continues to be very beneficial addition to student life.


D. PTA
Fall Fest will be rescheduled because of strike uncertainly.


E. Friends of Farnsworth
-Still dormant


F. Committees
PAC - Title 1 Advisory is in full compliance, and may begin spending funding
LRE - Report distributed
BAC - A committee has been developed, the next meeting will be October 28th 



VII. New Business
Motion was made to reschedule November 9th @8:15am to November 16th at 8:15am as a result of scheduling conflicts with report card conferences. The motion was 2nd by Becky Bush. The motion carries with no discussion or abstentions.



VIII. Old Business
-“No Trespassing” signs with Municipal Code codes have been ordered
