JAMES B. FARNSWORTH LOCAL SCHOOL COUNCIL 

NOTICE WAS GIVEN that the Local School Council scheduled a regular meeting on Wednesday September 14, 2016 that began at 8:15 AM at Farnsworth School, 5414 North Linder Avenue, in Chicago, Illinois. 


THE MEETING MINUTES ARE AS FOLLOWS:

IV. Vote to Approve Minutes
-Motion was made by Christina Hatley to approve the minutes from June 16, July 6, and July 21st.
-The motion was 2nd by Jim Oehler.



V. Public Comment

Mr. Fletcher wanted to open a discussion for the protocol and policy for school safety concerning the upcoming elections this November and the number of people who will be in and out of the building that day.

-No report


B. Student Council Report
-Not yet assembled


C. Principal
Champions Teacher and Staff Excellence
-Current Enrollment @ 642, which is above projections so no money will be lost.

-CIWP overview and update-on track

-ILT is working on developing their schedule for the year

Creates Powerful Learning Systems

-Daily 5 has been implemented in all grades K-3 and had the opportunity to attend a 2 day summer training with the program coordinators.

-Principal Oken will be meeting with the EL Network Representative as well as the ISL to discuss EL compliance moving forward.

Builds a Focus on College and Career Readiness

-PBIS team attended extensive training over the summer and School Wide Behavioral Matrix has been implemented.

-Teachers attended a full day PD on CHAMPS training as well

-Art and Music fully funded for the year-including new music teacher hire Mr. Mizzotti.

-MTSS is being supported by the Intervention/Enrichment Resource block that has been built in for all grades.

-Student Code of Conduct still in effect

-(8) Smartboards have been installed with (3) more on the way, which will provide one Smartboard per grade level.

Empowers and Motivates Families

-Mustang Monthly will be email blasted moving forward, no paper copies will be provided

-Curriculum Night-September 15th 6-7pm

-Literacy, Art, Game, Math/Science Nights will continue

-New This Year: Monthly Coffee Talk with Administration (working on scheduling)

-School Website still being run by Adam Sciascia

Safety

-Lockdown Drill with Law Enforcement is October 18th

-Lock on Modular needs to be repaired

-Teachers have been asked to complete (3) webinars

-Asthma, Allergy, Mandated Reported

Daily Operations

-Working with CPS to get A/C in Modulars repaired.

Budget/Spending Approval

-10th day is Monday (September 19th), but again no cuts are anticipated

2016-2017 Events Schedule:
-Back to School Movie Night-September 16th

-Fall Fest-October 15th

-Monster Ball-October 28th

-Holiday Bazaar-December 9th

-Daddy/Daughter Event-February 10th

-Mother/Son Event-March 10th

-Upper Grade Dance-May 19th

-The Committee is still Dormant

BAC-Ms. Silva will be working again to establish a team
PPLC-None at the time
CIWP-LRE-Report Distributed
PAC-First meeting was scheuled



VII. New Business

A. Campus Park Update
-Kate Wertime has worked tirelessly with Alderman Arena’s office as well as through several private grant writing opportunities to potentially secure a sizable amount of money (in excess of $1M) for the Campus Park Update-which could conceivably break ground in the Spring of 2017.
