NOTICE WAS GIVEN that the Local School Council held a scheduled meeting on Wednesday,
December 11, 2013 at 8:15 a.m. at Farnsworth School, 5414 North Linder Avenue, in Chicago, Illinois.

6. Reports
A. Chairperson
-A moment of silence for the passing of 7th grade student Erin McDermott. The Farnsworth community is deeply saddened by this loss.

B. Principal Report
-NWEA Map Testing is currently being implemented school wide-results will serve as a tool for creating meaningful units and lessons to meet student needs.
-1st Quarter Benchmarks have been completed and serve as an indicator for PARCC readiness
-Text Complexity analysis continues
-REACH evaluations & Peer Observations continue-both have been very informative
-Starting the first Friday of every month-college and career day-students and staff will be encouraged to support their local university and or alma mater.
-The attendance performance rating for the 2013-2014 school year has been projected to be a “2”
-Administration has revamped the “Awards”-they will be given quarterly as opposed to at the end of the year. There was a feeling that students needed more consistent and timely recognition of their accomplishments.
-Monthly Mustang continues its monthly production; Student Council will have a featured monthly spot in future editions. They are excited!
-Reading Night was small, but participants were enthusiastic. Additionally, there is an upcoming Game Night, December 17th, and staff is currently working on a Common Core Evening.
-Principal Oken continues her own personal professional development including 2nd year principal mentorship program, ELL/Bilingual quarterly PD, and Food Allergy and EPI pen training.

-This Friday is the Holiday Bazaar, Laura Ryan is this year’s chairperson.
-12/17 is the next PTA meeting
-Working on bringing some “cold weather” events to school as well: including Andre the Science Guy and Dot Kane
-Coming Soon: Daddy-Daughter Dance February 2014

D. Committees:
BAC-Highlights from the report include: ACCESS testing window 1/13/2014-2/14/2014; additional information will be made available at today’s ELL Liaison meeting.
PPLC- No report at this time
CIWP-LRE-Report distributed

7. New Business
-Request to add the Farnsworth School Campus Park Foundation “update” to the LSC monthly agenda
-Concerns over car traffic during the loading and unloading of the busses. Request made to contact the 16th District about a roving patrol car.
-FSACPF Update: This year the foundation has installed: new bike rack, and new stage lighting. Additionally, the foundation is moving ahead with a new playground, including astro turf project. They are every excited about it!

A. After Care Program Update
-Surveys have been sent out for “Champions”
B. Dress Code
-Current dress code policy has been sent out to cores-looking for updates and will wait till January to readdress. 

Motion was made by Jim Oehler to move into closed session for discussion of parent vacancy, motion was 2nd by George Wilson.

C. Closed Session - Parent Vacancy
Motion was made to return to open session

D. Parent Vacancy Appointment
-Aryn Fletcher has been appointed to the parent vacancy position.
