NOTICE WAS GIVEN that the Local School Council held a regularly scheduled meeting on Wednesday, February 5, 2014, at 8:15 a.m. at Farnsworth School, 5414 North Linder Avenue, in Chicago, Illinois.

A. Chairperson Report

-Make sure you pick-up your election packet!

B. Principal Report – STATE OF THE SCHOOL
-Demographics were highlighted-and remain consistent as compared to previous years
-However over the course of the last 10 years the low income percentage is up to 59.6%
-Attendance target is 95%, and last year Farnsworth was at 92.9%
-Current trends put Farnsworth at 94.1%
-ISAT trends from last year’s school remain positive, including consistently above district and state averages. New targets have been assigned by current school year.
-All grade levels have shown positive NWEA growths, with the exception of two grades that are slightly behind their cohorts from the previous years.
- As a school, Farnsworth is “Above Average” for student attainment on NWEA 2013 Spring testing.
-“On track” (C or higher in Reading & Math, greater or equal to 92% attendance rate) was 74.9% for the 2013 school year. The 2014 target is 77.4%.

-CIWP Priorities are continually addressed and monitored as teacher leaders continue to attend network PD meetings.
-As it specifically relates to Priority #3, the Department of Health and Wellness has approved an initiative to boost PE minutes over the course of the next 3 years from 90, 120, and 150 minutes respectively.
-Healthy Schools Certified “Bronze”
-Creative Schools Certified “Emerging”
-Continuing participation in CPS grades 5-8 sports program
-Battle of the Books, GOTR, Student Council, Special Olympics, Family Nights & PTA Events
-Securing an after school care provider for the 2014-2015 school year
-Challenges Ahead: Cluster Program Attendance

-Daddy-Daughter dance this Friday, February 7th.
-A Dot Kane performance has been scheduled for the Pre-K
-Next scheduled PTA meeting is Tuesday, February 11th

D. Farnsworth School, Campus and Park Foundation
-Committee met with “Julie” the design manager from CPS for a new campus park. She is working on developing a design proposal and budget. FSCPF will move forward securing funds and modifying the plan once the design has been created.

E. Committees:
BAC-Next meeting scheduled for April
PPLC-No updates at this time
CIWP-LRE- Report distributed

VI. New Business
- CIWP Update Year-Principal OKen will reach out to contacts to establish a timeline.
- Consider additional Spirit Days every Friday
- Farnsworth did wonderful at the Science Fair (2 Honorable mentions and Excellence)
- Consider Bulletin Boards to finish wrapping corners

A. After Care program Update

-Champions is very excited to begin their program even in light of under enrollment.
