School Schedule Information

Daily Start and Dismissal Times Grades K–8
School hours are from 7:45 am to 2:45 pm, Monday through Friday. Students may arrive as early as 7:35 am prior to the start of school, but should not arrive at school prior to 7:35 am because there is no supervision. The first bell will sound at 7:40 am, at which time all students should line up with their respective classes. The second bell will ring at 7:45 am, at which time school officially begins.

Grade levels line up at the following Doors:
K-2: Door 8 (Playground)
3-5: Door 6 (Faces Luna Avenue, SW end of playground)
6: Door 5 (Garden)
7-8: Door 3 (Balmoral Avenue)

Kindergarten
We have full day kindergarten at Farnsworth School. Kindergarten students line up at Door 8 by the playground. The kindergarten teachers will come out to pick up their classes in the morning. Kindergarten students are dismissed at 2:40 pm.

We welcome parents to walk their children in on the first day of school. Following the first day, we ask that the students walk in with their teacher. It is important for them to foster their independence. :)

Pre-Kindergarten
There are two sessions for Preschool. School hours for each session are:
Morning Session: 7:45 am to 10:25 am
Afternoon Session 12:05 pm to 2:45 pm

At the start of each session, students will be welcomed by their teacher at the garden modular building entrance. Please see the PreK teachers for detailed preschool information.

Dismissal
Students are dismissed at the end of their school day and will leave the building via the same door they entered (K-2: Door 8, 3-5: Door 6, 6: Door 5, 7-8: Door 3). Parents, guardians, and/or adults authorized to pick up children should wait outside their respective door for their children to leave the building. Parents should not come into the building to pick up their children.

Student Pick-up and Drop-off
When picking up and dropping off students for school, make sure to park in a legal spot. Parents should then either walk their child or let him/her walk (if close enough) the rest of the way. During peak pick-up and drop-off times, a lot of traffic moves around the school. Stopping in the middle of the street to let a student out of the car, blocking crosswalks and intersections, and letting children run across the street unattended causes a lot of unnecessary congestion and is dangerous to the students. Parents should not drive into the staff parking lot and can not drop off or pick up students in the staff parking lot. Finally, drivers should try to be courteous to our neighbors and not block driveways. Every year the school receives numerous complaints about this problem.

Parking
Parking is not allowed on the streets surrounding the school on school days. There is also permit parking on some of the streets near the school. Please ensure you are parking in a legal spot before leaving your car. Again, we ask that you do not pull your car into or park in the teacher parking lot, we do not want students walking through the parking lot as it is a safety hazard.
